Rhinoplasty (Nose Job)

Rhinoplasty (Nose Job)

Aesthetic operations for the correction of the congenital defects or subsequent deformities are called nose job (rhinoplasty) operations. There are different rhinoplasty applications; they are basically performed as open and closed rhinoplasty operations. The technique (open or close) depends on the plastic surgeon’s experience and the patient’s needs and condition. However, the operations known as open rhinoplasty draw great interest.

Application of Rhinoplasty

Prior to the application of rhinoplasty, the plastic surgeon does planning according to the patient’s face shape. The patients who want to have rhinoplasty come with a profile that they like; however, each nose shape is not suitable for every face structure and planning should be done well. Thanks to the technological advancements, the plastic surgeon helps the patient make the right decision based on the simulations that provide post-operative images in digital environment. The operation process is also comfortable because the plastic surgeon offers different options that will be performed with a comforting operation that is suitable to the patient’s face and skull structure. Rhinoplasty operation is performed under general anesthesia. The operation takes about 2-3 hours and the patient needs to be hospitalized overnight. Doctor control is essential the first week after surgery. After the initial control, the follow-up process is specially determined by the surgeon according to the patient’s condition.

After the Rhinoplasty

On the first day of the surgery, it is quite normal to experience post-operative pain. Immediately after the operation, the patient can take painkillers to relieve pain and have a more comfortable healing process. If necessary, extra medication treatment is applied depending on the patient’s condition; however, after-treatment process is generally painless. Swelling, bruises or edema may occur after the surgery. Swelling and edema disappear within 2-3 days while the bruises disappear in the first week depending on the patient’s body. Nasal congestion may occur but this is not a permanent condition and heals within 7-10 days. The post-operative nasal splints are removed and replaced with bandages during the doctor control. Bandages do not cause a bad appearance. After the operation, patients can return to their daily lives. The healing process lasts for 3-4 months on average.
