Tummy Tuck (Abdominoplasty)

Tummy Tuck (Abdominoplasty)

The abdominal region can be easily deformed due to various reasons, especially in women. Giving birth and fast weight gain or loss can expedite sagging in abdominal region. Although it is not as easy and fast as in women, men also suffer from abdominal weight gain. Therefore, men may also experience aesthetic problems related to the abdominal area. Tummy tuck operations, also known as abdominoplasty, remove excess skin (sagging) in the abdomen and help achieve a more aesthetic appearance. These operations, which are performed very easily with the developing technologies, come up with less-than-stellar solutions.

How is a Tummy Tuck performed?

The tummy tuck surgery is performed under general anesthesia. There are some procedures that should be applied before surgery. It is necessary to quit smoking one month before the tummy tuck operation. 10 days before the surgery, the patient stops taking blood thinners and takes anesthesia examination. A reverse tummy tuck is a procedure that is performed in order to correct the defects in the upper abdominal region. The operations performed for the complaints related to the lower abdominal region are called classical abdominoplasty. If the surgery covers the whole abdominal region, the operation is performed in quite a long time; however, it draws attention with excellent results. In abdominoplasty operations, the risk is directly proportional to the application area. These operations are basically based on stretching the sagging skin making an incision on the application area. The incisions are stitched closed with aesthetic sutures and stitch scars are hidden as much as possible.

Care after Tummy Tuck Surgery

Tummy tuck surgery takes about 2-3 hours and the patient needs to stay in the hospital for 1 or 2 days. The hospitalization period depends on the patient’s condition. It takes about 6-12 months to complete the healing process and the abdominal area takes the desired shape. After 7-10 days of healing period, the patient can return to daily life. Abdominoplasty operations do not require repetition at certain intervals. In case of excessive weight gain/loss or giving birth, it may cause sagging in the treat area again. Therefore, the tummy tuck operations offer the most effective results after the birth plans.
